Our Mission as a Keep America Beautiful Affiliate is to work in partnership with the City of Belmont North Carolina, to educate and involve the community in litter and waste reduction, recycling, beautification and natural resource conservation.
We hold scheduled community cleanups in the Spring and Fall, as well as working with our schools to facilitate their required service hours.
Each Spring we encourage the local schools to apply for a grant to be used by the students for designing and implementing outside campus improvements. We write the checks and all work is done by the students. The projects are coordinated by a parent or assigned teacher representative. Each campus is judged and an award sign is posted on the entrance to the campuses.
Our Yard of the Month runs from April till June and includes both residential as well as businesses. Yards are nominated by friends, neighbors and other businesses. One business and four homes are chosen each month to receive a "Yard of the Month" sign which stays until the following month.
From City Pride Day in April to the Christmas Parade and Festival of Trees, KBB is active within our City. We love to be here!
This program is the brainchild of a long standing member of our Board of Directors, Susan Wall. She coordinates a group of 16 volunteers who weed and maintain our raised flower beds along Main Street in downtown Belmont. The volunteers work on their own schedules and at their own pace. This group also uses the time to interact with downtown merchants and fellowship together to make new friends.
